Although I feel a combination of all the competencies untimely provide nurses with the means to function in such an increasingly complex healthcare environment on a daily basis; of the 10 core competencies, I definitely think Safety would be the most important to my future nursing practice. Thousands of people die each year during hospitals stays, primarily thought hospital acquired infections or medical errors, thus making patient safety the top priority. Most of the mortalities are preventable. To be able to give high quality care, nurses must broaden their scope of practice and be able to coordinate care across teams of healthcare professionals.
