Task 1: Your application (Word Count – 500 Words)

I applied to Newcastle College as I am hoping to move to the North East, I found this course through researching online. Through extensive research I found that Newcastle is one of the very few places that do this particular course in the UK, in the end I only applied for this one as I fell in love with Newcastle and I discovered that this is the place that I really feel I have to be. I believe that disruptive behaviour could be anything that distracts the teacher’s attention from the front of the classroom however anything that is violent or subversive surely would be seen as challenging behaviour. For example a child could be angry but would not be necessarily violent towards anyone, it is only when the child gets up and his or her body language changes that the behaviour would cause concern and would be deemed challenging, furthermore I believe that disruptive behaviour is usually very easily solved as it is usually minor things and the child is usually not intentionally aggressive towards others. However upon reading the article further, I can now see how disruptive behaviour can be seen as challenging and extremely difficult and I can understand how one can turn into the other as disruptive is a wide term. When I am speaking of disruptive I am speaking of minor disruptive children such as talking and throwing paper balls, but I can see that others are speaking of children who cause bigger disruptions. When people speak of difficult students, I imagine a student who is being uncooperative and refusing instructions completely, I find that these kinds of students would be hard to work with and I also imagine that this student could also be a disruptive student so again I believe that there are parallels between all three types of

In addition, I knew the environment, curriculum, relationships, strategies, and the individual child has a great impact on children’s behaviors. This class also changed my thoughts because I don’t know that educators can prevent challenging behaviors when they make changes in the physical space, routines and transition, and their teaching strategies. Before taking this class, I think that challenging behavior is different reactions and actions that may have behaviors which challenge, and those reactions are socially unacceptable behavior because it challenges and become harmful to other people. However, while taking this class I usually think critically about the subject ‘behavior challenges’ because I understand that children tend to have challenging behavior when their needs unmet. I also reflect, and analyze to select appropriate strategies for each child’s…

There is a big difference between conflicts and challenging behaviors, especially in the classroom. Conflict is “an expressed disagreement between children, usually involving property, territory, and/or privilege; or a mistaken behavior by a child or children, disagreed with by a teacher” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 512). Conflict is a natural and daily occurrence. While challenging behavior is define as “conflicts that cause harm or serious disruption; the term often connotes a continuing pattern of such conflicts shown by individual children” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 511). Philosophy Statement I have chosen to work in this field because I believe that early school years are the most significant in a child’s life as they lay the foundation for future education. True education is one that brings out the person’s potential. Education should encompass the whole child—intellectual, social, emotional and physical aspects of his/her being. Being a preschool teacher involves a true love for the career and working with children. "…

The following Antecedent-Behavior-Consequences (ABC) Chart has been prepared for Jackson K. Direct observation was done during his Integrated Algebra 1A class to complete the ABC chart. The purpose was to identify “environmental and contextual variables that support challenging behavior” (Chandler and Dahlquist, 70). There are some consequences that are often related to appropriate and challenging behaviors, some desirable and others not. Unfortunately, oftentimes students that engage in challenging behaviors are removed from the learning environment. This is not helpful because the function of this behavior is avoidance and so the behavior is successful from the student’s perspective.…
