1.02 Career Goals

I was inspired to identify my career goals from my recent exposure to the business world and the most powerful women in finance. My takeaway from my internship last summer at Solera Capital, a women-run private equity firm, is that I would like to integrate social responsibility into every aspect of my life. I had an amazing experience at Solera because I found that their commitment to diversity, integrity, mentorship, collaboration, environmental responsibility and sustainability greatly contributed to their success in managing portfolio companies geared toward serving and providing products to women, families, and diverse demographics. Coming from an all-girls school, I have been empowered to commit all of my efforts to drive social change. To do so while following my ambitions to gain financial power and independence, I completed the Bloomberg Market Concepts course last semester and decided to lead a team to participate in the Bloomberg Trading Challenge, competing against several hundred teams led by college students to generate the strongest investment strategy and most valuable portfolio. I have also chosen to attend a women’s college in New York, so I can study in an inspiring community filled with powerful women while gaining valuable internship experience in the city. For my undergraduate studies, I plan on receiving a liberal arts education--a minor in Economics and B.A. in International Relations--from Barnard College as well as an engineering education-- a B.S. in Analytics--from Columbia University’s School of Applied Science. Studying economics will help me understand two actors in a closed system, enabling me to think critically about bargaining and trade on an individual
