The purpose of this letter is to evaluate my performance in your “ENG 242 (001M) - Survey of American Literature II” course.

One of the challenges I experienced when taking this course was writing a critical analysis essay. When I wrote my first essay, I used a combination of analysis and summary when writing the paper. However, as the course progressed and I began to practice more, I started to understand the importance of analyzing information and subsequently finding a deeper meaning within the assigned readings.

I believe I succeeded at writing the introduction and conclusion for the papers I wrote. Once I grasped the concept of critical analysis, I was able to improve the analytical aspect of my writing and relate the material in

This letter is being written to you, to let you know my thoughts about how much this class has enabled me to grow as a writer and student. As a writer I have many new acquired strengths. One of these newly acquired strengths is that I have the ability to write an essay that assess other author’s pieces of work. Before this class, I wrote very generic five paragraph essays that let the reader know, that the author of a certain piece of work was a good writer and captivated the audience. Now I am able to state the authors’ purpose and the rhetoric terms that he or she uses to get their purpose across to their audiences.…

The only thing that was difficult was finding secondary sources for my analysis. We were given multiple websites to search, but it just seemed my topic was not out there. I did feel like the essay kind of crept up on us, but we were given examples, which was very helpful. The assignment was explained well and the expectations were laid out in the prompt so I believe everything was handled properly. This literary analysis was useful in my opinion.…

Performance Assessment Essay for Blugold Semnar When writing this Self-Assessment Essay upon the completion of the Blugold Seminar class, I realized what I truly did get out of this class. I was introduced to the knowledge of joining to the many conversations and debates I will be exposed to in the upcoming semesters and how to connect with these conversations. One of the most significant goals I secured was the ability to understand and apply the key rhetorical terms, specifically invented and situated ethos, in my Segment 1 Rhetorical Analysis.…

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

Throughout this semester, we have written two major papers that really display my capabilities as a writer. By evaluating these two pieces with the learning outcomes established at the beginning of this semester, outcomes 1, 2, and 3 are most applicable when gauging my progress in this course. Learning outcome 1 is, "Demonstrate academic research and writing skills in essays and projects to participate in a scholarly conversation" Learning outcome 2 is, "Demonstrate critical reading through a knowledge of the forms and functions of a variety of texts" Learning Outcome 3 is, "Follow a research writing process that includes developing a topic, locating and evaluating sources (including peer-reviewed), composing in response to those sources, and revising and reflecting on that process;" Each of these outcomes I believe I have met by using them as goals when writing in and out of class. In my essay "Survivors and their Children: Examining the Holocaust's Multigenerational Effects" I discuss the impact the Holocaust has on those who survived it and on their children.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…

TASK 1 : ESSAY Discuss the application of relevant theories of literary criticism in the selected text. Literary criticism from my point of view can be defined as the art or practice of judging and commenting on the qualities and characteristics of various literary works. Modern critics tend to pass down the concerns of earlier centuries, such as formal categories or the place of moral or aesthetic value. Some analyse texts as self-contained entities, in segregation from external factors, while others discuss them in terms of spheres such as biography, history, Marxism or even feminism. As the time passes by, the concepts of meaning and authorship have been explored and questioned through many aspects such as structuralism, post-structuralism,…

This year in English 10H has allowed me to hone and improve my reading and writing skills. With this class, I have been able to be challenged far more than I would have had I not chosen to stick with an honors class. My writing has improved leaps and bounds over the course of the year due to the large amount of papers we wrote that covered vastly different subject matters. The first paper we wrote to start off the year was a thesis essay based on an independent novel that we read over the summer. In this thesis essay, we had to choose three literary elements that were used skillfully in the book and analyze how they were used to convey the novel’s theme.…
