I have chosen to report on endometriosis as it something that I have recently been diagnosed with.
Endometriosis is a condition where cells like those found in the uterus are found in other parts of the body usually the, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, bladder, uterine tubes and other pelvic structures. The uterus is a muscular organ of a female’s reproductive system and is made up of three layers the endometrium, myometrium and the perimetrium. The uterus, also known as womb is located between the rectum and bladder and is connected to the vagina, cervix and fallopian tubes. The uterine cavity has mucous membrane called the endometrium. During menstrual cycle, the thickness of the lining and is at its thickest when the egg is released from the ovaries. If the egg becomes fertilised it becomes attached to the wall and will be nourished by the uterus. If the egg is not fertilised it will be passed during menstrual bleeding.
The ectopic tissue, like the uterine endometrium behaves in the same way as those found in the womb lining during a female’s menstrual cycle and responds to fluctuations in sex hormone levels, however unlike those found in the womb lining which break down to become a period there is no escape from the body for these cells

In some cases, it can cause infertility but it is estimated that up to 70% of women with mild to moderate endometriosis will eventually be able to conceive without treatment. Sufferers may be offered surgery to remove these areas where the tissue has built up to help improve fertility. In some cases, the patient may choose IVF if they have been unable to conceive alone but women who have endometriosis also have a lower chance of getting pregnant even in this
