Tick! Tick! Tick! The metal monster slowed to a stop. I could see the entire park all the way to the horizon. Admiration flowed through me while looking at the view. I heard a click when WHOOSH, the roller coaster zoomed down the track. I’m in the second row. The unbelievable force as the roller coaster accelerates down the drop made my eyes bulge. The extreme amount of pressure made my heart fly to my head, and for all I know, my kidney may now be in my arm. I found myself smiling the whole…
Adams, Judith. The American Amusement Park Industry: A History of Technology and Thrills. Boston: Twayne, 1991. Print. This source describes the evolving industry of American amusement parks starting with the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, as well as World War II and how amusement park withstood different times. Adams makes a great argument that it all seems so frivolous, that the average American can be enticed by something so routine made out of a simple combination of “gears, wood…
time to the early 20th century small-town America, As I wander down Main Street, I can see a vintage barbershop, charming little shops, and an old-fashioned movie theatre. The end of Main Street USA is the center of the park Cinderella’s enchanting castle, and center of the park. I find pathways that lead to additional fairy-tale lands where fantasy becomes a reality. On Liberty Square, I visited The Hall of Presidents to view a show featuring every American president, past and present, in a…
Rosa Parks had to go through many challenges growing up as an African American, just like Martin Luther King, she was an activist. She was mostly known for staying in her seat when the bus driver told her to give it up to a white man. Rosa’s story relates to mine in many ways. Her courage and determination helps me to find the courage in myself. Rosa Parks was treated unfairly because she was African-American. She was an activist against segregation for African-americans. Her first act that…

Pablo By: Rok Outside of the water there were kids playing on the beach while their maid drones supervised them. Oops! I forgot to introduce myself! I’m Pablo, Pablo Ferisa. You may not be able to tell this but I am a sea monster. But I’m not scary! I’m really nice! I just want to be the humans’ friends, but their maid drones just protect their children. I was swimming near the beach in the Florida Keys. I slowly surfaced. I swam by a piece of trash. These maid drones discard their…
percent water but only three percent of that is fresh water and can be used by humans and animals for hydration. Of that three percent, seventy percent is locked in ice caps and not readily accessible to humans to use, leaving only about 0.3 percent of fresh water in locations that can be used by many organisms of the planet. And with 8.7 million, give or take a few million, species on Earth; we are sharing very limited quantities, with one-third of the human population living in…
Ever since I was a little girl, my parents took our family on camping trips to Glendo State Park, Wyoming, or as we like to call it, Lake Glendo. Glendo State Park is located almost directly 200 miles north of Denver, Colorado, and is surrounded by many open fields where free-roaming range cattle keep the grass trimmed. Even though the winter months cool down the lake, after a month or two of summer the water is warm and the temperature is warm, with occasional storms. Lake Glendo is my favorite…
I chose to do my paper on Rosa Parks because I think she was very brave and because she didn’t use violence to get her point across. Rosa Parks was against race segregation and she expressed that in several ways. Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama.(Hull, 24) She had one brother, one mother, and one father. On her fifth birthday, her father decided to leave the family because his job meant that he had to travel a lot.(Hull, 24) As a child, she suffered from chronic…
