sometimes a little more or a little less time than that, and then the child is raised by its mother and father. There are some scientific advancements that allow the parents to check on the wellbeing of the fetus while it is still in utero, but none of them are as high tech as that of the ones in the novel. A few tests that exist in American society are “fetal movement counts…biophysical profile…and Doppler ultrasound of the umbilical artery.” Although these tests do exist, they are only used in special cases. Fetal movement counts are used when the fetus moves less than what is considered normal. This test doesn’t take a visit to the doctor, but rather just a notepad and a pencil to keep track of every time the fetus kicks. Biophysical profile testing is done in order to test the health of the fetus in five different areas. The areas are: fetal heart rate, fetal breathing movements, fetal body movements, fetal muscle tone, and the amount of amniotic fluid. Last but not least, there is the Doppler ultrasound test. This test “is used to check the blood flow in the umbilical artery.” This test is done much like the way an ultrasound done in order to see the baby is done. (Gynecologists) In the novel, a woman doesn’t house her child in her womb for nine months, but rather the child is grown entirely outside of the body. Women don’t have children and children don’t have parents. Eggs are fertilized in test tubes and they then undergo a process known as “Bokanovsky’s Process.”…

Later in this chapter we shall take a look at scripture verses that so clearly illustrate what I am talking about, but first I will explain a few things. All truths are parallel! Why does the Bible mention the umbilical cord? Unlike like humans, there is nothing that God mentions in His word that is unnecessary. Most Bible translations unmistakably refer to the umbilical cord as the navel or navel string. When the Bible talks about the umbilical cord it is often with a dual meaning. In the…

Fetal circulation differs greatly from that of a newborn heart. Although, outwardly appearances may seem similar. By taking an internal look we may be able to distinguish four adaptations that fetal hearts undergo while in utero. First, we must understand that the fetus receives all blood and nutrients from the parental placenta. The fetus receives this blood from the placenta through the umbilical vein. This is the first adaptation that we see in the fetal cardiovascular circulatory system.…

the inability to agree on whether it is ethical to use the cells of an aborted fetus in the name of science. Right-wing conservatives, Roman Catholics, and various other narrow minded groups will say no indefinitely; while, those open-minded enough to consider the remarkable benefits of this research, would agree that it should continue without a doubt. Six years ago, in attempt to gain more donations for stem cell research, the state of New York has granted clinics permission to offer…

The monitor that was keeping track of the baby’s heart rate began setting off an alarm. I glanced over and knew that this had turned into a dire situation. The doctor rushed in and checked my cervix. “That is the cord. Not the baby” A feeling of pure panic filled the room. I knew it was a cord prolapse. She tried to push the umbilical cord back up into me, but the baby’s heart rate dropped again. She looked at my husband and yelled “Ryan, push that red button on the wall now!” I knew…

the cardiovascular system is to transport materials around the body with blood serving as its transport medium. Blood is contained and transported in hollow tubes known as blood vessels. The body has three main types: Arteries, capillaries and Veins. All arteries (with the exception of pulmonary and umbilical arteries) transport Oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. They branch off into smaller structures named arterioles which lead to the Capillaries. In the capillaries…

To understand the pros and cons of delayed cord clamping you must first understand what cord clamping is, and why it is done. “Cord clamping is part of the third stage of labor, which is the time between delivery of the infant and the placenta. The cord is usually clamped by applying two clamps. The cord is cut between the clamps.” (Reynolds, 2007) Cord clamping is done at the moment of birth to cut off the supply of blood, oxygen and nutrients to the baby from the placenta. Delayed cord…
