each month. Irion works closely with Texas A & M University to keep and maintain the ranches thriving. They recently participated in The Texas Livestock Early Warning System. The participation in this system helped get the data that will now impact how other ranching areas in the state operate in times of drought and population reduction. Irion county has a few notable historical sites and historic event that occurred at each of them. In 1858 Camp Charlotte was created as a military camp and frontier post. It protected against Indians challenging battles. It had officer’s area and a guard house. Many attacks from Indians occurred here. It was located around forty-five miles west of San Angelo and served as a mail post office later. Dove Creek is The Battle of Dove Creek took place only eight miles away from Mertzon. The confederates fought the Kickapoo Indians. After hours of battle the confederates withdrew. This was the first of many attacks from the Kickapoo Indians. Mertzon itself is a historic to Irion county as it is the country seat that had a historic event as well. It was established as a post office and named after a banker M.L. Mertz. Mr. Mertz helped develop Mertzon by attracting businesses after adding the Orient Railway to the area. One of the most interesting attractions I found in Irion county is in San Angelo. They have a walking mural tour. Each mural gives a little bit of the history of the town. People use them as things to find in…

The Pontifical Academy of Sciences, established in 1603 with Galileo as chair, is relocated to the City of London to provide a new education system to tackle the Square Mile’s lack of moral purpose. The Academy is a monochrome mass of libraries and ritualistic lecture spaces set in a landscape to induce physical and metaphysical wandering, meeting and reflection. Three environments are provided, inspired by the core natural elements of mountain for isolation and reflection, river for wandering…

The Forest Acres community offers a number of opportunities to those who live in the area. As a city that has increased from two square miles to approximately five square miles in the area size, and from 375 to around 10, 500 in population size, it is understandable why this community appears to be becoming more upscale when compared to other local communities. After visiting different areas of this community, Forest Acres appears to be a community that is populated mostly by upper middle class…

Over the course of the semester I have been volunteering with American Public Square. I have completed around eleven hours so far and have been helping at events hosted by the group. At events I have helped attendants find seats, passed out programs, collected questions from the audience, tracked demographics, and cleaned up once attendees have left. While my acts have seemed small to me, those putting on the programs have said these little things amount to a large burden off their shoulders.…

gains. In 1881, the fledgling city stood at the threshold of a surge in population, industry, and wealth.14 The family’s oral history speculates that Charley followed the St. Croix River south from Duluth to Chisago County.15 This is highly unlikely, since it required an approximately forty mile detour into Wisconsin to reach the source of the river. Charley likely used the railroad, either as a passenger or as a physical guide to direct him to his destination. He conceivably paused in…

In the US, highway signs are in the customary system. For example, if Iw as traveling to Alexandria, Virginia, I would take I-270 and a see a sign saying “Alexandria 35 miles away”. This is the case throughout the United States, and it would cost billions of dollars to fix everyone of these signs. And for a country that’s about 19.3 trillion dollars in debt, we don't need that burden. Also, manufacturing companies would have to spend another billions of dollars trying to fix the values on…
