I have chosen to list my programmes in the following order to create my desired and enhanced effect towards the chosen topic of gender and character types; Thunderbirds (Sylvia Anderson & Gerry Anderson, 1965 - 1966), Battlestar Galactica (Glen A. Larson & Ronald D. Moore, 2004- 2009), Torchwood (Russell T. Davies, 2006 - 2011), Continuum (Simon Barry, 2012 -2015), The Sarah Jane Adventures (Russell T. Davies, 2007- 2011) and Star Trek: Voyager (Rick Berman, 1995 - 2001). This order allows ‘complex programming’ which ‘invites a level of cognitive engagement’ (J.P. Telotte, 2008. pg. 305) as it helps to build up and enhance the topic area through divided halves of the showings. The first half consists of episodes that show ranks that the audience can relate to the structure a Navy corporation may contain. Battlestar Galactica, Thunderbirds and Star Trek: Voyager, use these to their advantage when creating and developing character archetypes within their shows, it helps for a closer engagement for the audience and can help define personality traits and conventions linked to the…
