    the help of his daughter Jeryl Lynn who had the mumps at the time, Hilleman isolated the virus from her and started working from there (The History of Vaccines: Mumps). Born and raised in Custer County, Montana, Maurice Ralph Hilleman was born in August 30, 1919 along with his twin sister, Maurice won a scholarship on Bozeman In the Montana State University and later graduated with a Ph.D in microbiology in1944 ( Famous Scientist: Maurice Hilleman ). Hilleman was a superhero to the people during the 60’s, as he helped save millions of lives with the his studies and contributions. The first vaccine was developed during 1948 however it was only short-term immunity and was discontinued in the 70’s, on March 30, 1967 the FDA licensed the Mumpsvax, the vaccine made by Hilleman and the help of his daughter ( ProCon.com). According to Richard Conniff the generic practice to get rid of a virus was to isolate the infected organism, then to try to figure out how to keep it alive, after that scientists will weaken the organism by fighting it with new series of cells until it is gone, that is exactly what Hilleman did. Maurice Hilleman was one of the most important people during this era, he never gave up in trying to find a cure and with the help of others, he accomplished his goals.
