    where nature has connected the living and the dead through the serenity and peace that is felt. The architecture of the area adds to the tranquility of the land. The gravestones are a chance to tell a story about a life. The design of each is so inspiring and eye opening. It is dreamlike to walk through the wooded area, surrounded by so many distinct stones that tell a tale of different neighbors in the Pittsburgh area. One of the monuments that caught my eye was the Moorhead Mausoleum. The greenery growing from every angle of the roof indicates that it may be one of the oldest structures there. The intricate English Gothic designs are an architect’s dream. I have attempted to draw this numerous times, but it has ended in failure looking more like a three year-old drew them. There is hope though, I am told that architecture school will teach me how to draw. Maybe one day I will come back to that area of the cemetery and be capable of drawing each intricate design on the columns and windows of this mausoleum. To continue the story, I have to explain why I entered the castle-like gates on Butler Street. I first entered the gates due to the passing of my grandmother Virginia Byerly Kerr. She was the essence of grace and class. She adored the arts and lived for this great city. She claimed her eternal resting place within the 300 acres, overlooking a beautiful pond and the modern design of the UPMC Children’s Hospital.
