    Can you believe a dentist created cotton candy? It is a true fact and the man’s name was William Morrison. William Morrison was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born in 1860. William Morrison graduated from the University of Tennessee Dental College. He also became president of the Tennessee Dental Association after attending college. His interests were in science and politics. Throughout William’s life, he was a noted dentist, lawyer, author, and a leader in civic and political affairs. He was an author of children’s books. William also devised a chemical process to purify drinking water for Nashville. William Morrison died at the age of 66 from a stroke. One of William Morrison’s greatest attributes to mankind before his death was his publicized and modernized invention of cotton candy. Cotton candy was found as early as the 1400’s in Italy. Cotton candy was known as a delicacy because sugar was expensive at that time period due to importation. The sugar would be melted in a pan. They would use a fork and make strings of liquid sugar. It would dry and be eaten as a harder form of cotton candy. Cotton Candy was not known as cotton candy in these early times. William Morrison and John C. Wharton invented a machine that made cotton candy in 1897. Cotton Candy was first introduced in the 1900 at a Paris exposition by the two men.
