    Priscilla Juarez 1/08/2015 Ms.Jenson Touching Spirit Bear In the beginning of the book Cole Matthews a fifteen year old from Minneapolis, Minnesota arrives in Southeast Alaska in handcuffs. Cole agrees to stay on a neglected island in Alaska all alone for a year to avoid jail time in Minneapolis. Accompanied by Two Native Americans from the Tlingit tribe; one named Garvey, a parole officer, and the other named Edwin, a quiet elder who helped arranged Cole’s banishment. Edwin was the one who built a shelter where Cole would stay during his time of banishment. Cole Matthews was not a Native American, He was a White baby-faced fifteen year old juvenile delinquent who had been in trouble with the law half his life.Cole had never heard of Circle Justice, or not at least until his arrest after bragging at school that he robbed a hardware store, Cole was determined to find the kid who ratted him out and when he did find out he’d bet the kid up. Peter Driscal was a ninth grader, Cole picked on Peter many of times ‘Just for fun’, but Cole was mad and when he caught up with Peter after school he punched peter as hard as he could and didn’t stop he kept shoving him, Peter tried to get up but Cole attacked him again and starting smashing his head against the sidewalk. Peter ends up suffering from head trauma and speech problems, and that might leave Cole getting tried as an adult and being sent to prison, Garvey the parole officer offers a path to the Circle Justice to avoid prison.…
