    You probably will not want an open can of pet food in the cooler with your regular food, and it will spoil fast once opened. Be sure to buy the very large, well-insulated coolers designed for camping and fishing--preferably 42 gallons or larger. When it comes to keeping food cold, bigger is better. There is more room for ice, and massed ice, especially water frozen in large containers, will stay frozen much, much longer. Be sure you have plenty of waterproof containers to seal the food in, because as the ice melts, the water level rises. You do not want to drain off the melted icewater, because it will help keep the food cool and make the ice last longer. It may not be ice anymore, but it is still much cooler than the surrounding air---even in the cooler. You will need a huge amount of ice for coolers. Buy and/or freeze as much as possible!
