were so passionate about their subjects. After this course I had acquired a different level of education of American History that I have grown to appreciate. Prior to this class I had not been aware of several events in our history including the project of Freedom Summer which took place in 1964. Throughout the PBS documentary of Freedom Summer I had felt shocked, fortunate, furious and several other feelings. The Project of Freedom Summer organized by SNCC had the main goal of registering the black citizens of Mississippi to vote. Among this goal they had also wanted to address the inadequate schools. Although they had the right to vote, through intimidation, lynching, poll taxes and literacy exams made it difficult for African American citizens to register and exercise their right to vote. One of the main leaders was Bob Moses. Along with Bob Moses were…

Freedom Summer, just a mere 10 weeks of the summer of 1964, changed the world, just by changing Mississippi. Reconstruction ended and blacks were no longer slaves, but they continued to be oppressed. Mississippi was the state that kept blacks as slaves without the title. Mississippi had the lowest crime rate, supposedly, but most likely had the most murders of blacks in cold blood. The Mississippi Summer Project dived head first into the volatile violence, subjecting their volunteers to a unique…

Black communities have historically been oppressed in the United States by the white people in power, but that does not mean that they accept it. The protesters from the Freedom Summer and Black Panther Party were groups that wanted to end the oppression and unfair treatment their communities faced by organizing groups to fight for the rights of oppressed communities while also creating efforts to help and support the oppressed communities. Summer vacation is important for students who want a break from school. School causes stress for many students who try their hardest to succeed in academics. Taking away the one thing students look forward to, summer time, is a punishment to all in the school system. Switching to year-round school would cause students’ interests to decrease dramatically within the first year. Year-round school should not be endorsed because students would have more freedom, their sleeping schedules would be more…

One thing I will miss about summer is having the freedom to do want I want and when I want to do it. I think that summer just lowers my stress and makes me feel better and more active. I love sleeping in and not having to wake up to an alarm clock. Being tired and not in a good mood. I also like when I could stay up late in summer and watching movies and stuff. For example, I stayed up til 5 in the morning with my friends at a sleepover. I think that summer just gives you freedom and you can go…

What is summer? The majority of kids, if asked, will tell you that summer signifies the end of school, the start of fun and freedom. You will find some kids at the pool, the mall, or sleeping in. Many stay home and play video games, while others go to the beach. Instead of spending my time at the pool or with friends, I hung-out with furry, four-legged beast and some rambunctious two-legged, little people. As you will learn, this summer, for me, has been a time of learning responsibility. Ever…

Most students enjoy summer vacation, but some educators feel that summer break is too long and that students do not retain information as easily when they return in the fall. Some people argue that there should be year-round schools, where there would be a 3-4 week break in the Summer, a longer Winter break, and a week off in the Spring and Fall. Summer break is very beneficial to students. Summer break is something students look forward to all year. For students, summer break means less stress…
