    them. Time and time again, they laid their lives on the line. They did everything that they could to educate themselves and others even though it was immensely frowned upon by society. Frederick Douglass and Anne Moody were determined to fight slavery and racism and were willing to put everything they worked to achieve and their own lives in jeopardy by educating others and spreading awareness. In the fight against slavery and racism, Douglass and Moody faced people who belittled them based on their skin color so they spoke up for themselves and took matters into their own hands. After Douglass was sent back to Edward Covey the slave-breaker, Covey tried to attack him, “At this moment-from whence came the spirit I don’t know-I resolved to fight; and suiting my action to the resolution I seized Covey by the throat; and as I did so, I rose” (Douglass 81). Fighting Covey meant that he would stand up against anyone attempting to drag him down. Moody took a part-time job of cleaning the houses of white people and when she knocked on the front door of Mrs Burke’s house, she was told to enter through the back door, “The tone of her voice told me that she was again trying to subdue me … But the next morning I walked up on the front porch again and knocked at the front door … I will knock at the front door tomorrow morning again and the day after that” (Moody 122).
