People such as Mark Bauerlein have begun to claim that our generation is the “dumbest” generation. If he means that we are more silent than previous generations, that statement would be correct. We tend to spend our time writing and communicating through technology, whether it be social media or texting. Therefore we are fairly silent...from our mouths. While preceding generations may claim that we are the “dumbest” generation, we are actually much more advanced than they were and on the brink of a literary breakthrough. Source 2 touches on this when it says “But if dumb means lacking such fundamental cognitive capacities as the ability to think critically and logically, to analyze an argument, to learn and remember, to see analogies, to distinguish fact from opinion...well here Bauerlein is on shakier ground.” Our generation may not know facts such as what year Homer wrote the Odyssey or that Van Gogh cut off his ear in a fit of dementia. However, we are still beyond capable of taking an article or piece of literature and critically analyze it. Not only are we capable of thinking and analyzing like the generations before us, but we are far more literate.…

Whats the dumbest thing you’ve ever done? We are all human and we all make mistakes. We have all pushed a door that clearly says pull. We have all said something we weren’t supposed to. We have all done something stupid we cringe at the thought of it. The dumbest thing I’ve ever done? That’s easy, give my heart to someone who didn’t deserve it. Now I’m not entirely 100 percent sure I was in love, but whatever it was—whenever it ended it still hurt as bad. It’s crazy how someone can become so…

I am a very caring, wholehearted, hard worker. In middle school I struggled with math. I was brought down into the slower classes. The ones for the students who needed more help than the others. I was teased and mocked for being in the “dumb” class as they called it. I felt horrible about myself. I walked down the hallway and felt like everyone was talking about me. A thought popped up into my head right then and there. I would never let anyone degrade me for struggling a little. I went…

Being a student is not so fun we have to do work and interact with people we don’t want to, and we have a whole other set of people to boss us around till we're older, to me the most stressful part of school is when you have a question in class, because you have to find out if it’s a dumb question and whether or not the teacher or another student already explained it & if the teacher will even be able to hear you over the noise or just dead silence when you have a soft voice. It’s nerve wrecking…

Samuel Beckett, who similarly used theatrical silence and long amplified pauses for a innovative effect, heavily influences Harold Pinter’s work. The objective of this essay is to define ‘Silences’ and Pinter’s uses of pauses as a theatrical technique used in the form of non verbal communication between characters of Ben and Gus in Pinter’s, The Dumb Waiter. His plays can be studied on various levels of in depth readings. The sheer complexity of his work is what conveys these different diverse…

As the Dumb Blonde is often the first to go, she is also the first to make major mistakes that seem as if she has a sign glued to her perfectly toned, overly tan back screaming, “Kill me first, my eight inch stilettos pinch my toes too tightly for running circles in this foggy forest!” Aside from her immense heels, her clothing choices do not seem to improve much. In fact, the Dumb Blonde decided it was in her best interest to wear as little clothes as humanly possible as she sports a…

Are We Dumb, or Do We Just Act Dumb? The United States has a tendency to flaunt about being the best country in the world, yet as a country, there hasn’t been an attempt to demonstrate it. When it comes to education, the country is far from being ahead of the other countries in the world. However, there have been many people who have transcended and surpassed any misconceptions. They are the people who have demonstrated to the nation that a nation of low-achieving people have the potential of…
