It is believed that the Velociraptor used its feathers to attract possible breeding-partners and mates, as well as keep itself warm. It could also have used the feathers to generate speed when running, especially up steep-inclines. Let’s talk first about the Velociraptor’s classifications and groups that they are a part of. This dinosaur belongs to the Animalia kingdom, the Chordata phylum, and its class is the Archosauria. Its order is is the Saurischia, and belongs to the Dromaeosauridae family. The Velociraptor is in the V. Mongoliensis species. Animalia is the kingdom which comprises all animals. The Velociraptor’s family, the Dromaeosauridae, is a family of Theropod dinosaurs. This family was comprised of small to medium-sized feathered dinosaurs. This family’s fossils have been found across the globe in North America, Asia, Europe, and Antarctica. The term “dromaeosauridae” means “running lizards.” Informally, this family are all typically called “raptors.” The Phylum of the Velociraptor is the Chordata. Chordates are animals possessing a notochord, a hollow dorsal nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, an endostyle, and a post-anal tail for at least some period of their life cycles. All Chordates are deuterostomes as in the embryo development stage the anus forms before the mouth. The Saurischia order is one of two groups of dinosaurs, the other of course, is the Ornithischia.
