Methyl mercury produced renal carcinomas in mice, after had given 15 mg/kg in their diets for one year. Several substances have been found that has ability to modify the effect of the chronic toxicity of methyl mercury as selenium, which has antagonist effect and protective action by delay and reduce the severity of methyl mercury toxicity. Antioxidant and Vitamin E, have also had a protective effect against methyl mercury toxicity. Ethanol has been reported that can potentiate the effects of methyl mercury. People at risk In general, people are in chronic exposed to high level mercury considers to be at high risk, such as population relies on fish in their diet or people expose to mercury during their work. A study show that 1.5/1000 of adult and 17/1000 children were had diagnosed with mild mental retardation caused by consumption of mercury contaminated fish and sea food.
