Pool Pockets Problem Statement: A ball is hit off of the bottom left hand corner of a pool table at a 45angle. The pool tables dimensions are all whole numbers and the ball bounces off at a 45 angle, how many rebounds does it take before it goes into one of the 4 corner pockets. Which corner will it land in? Process: To start the problem I drew about 20 rectangles to represent the pool table in the problem and recorded the dimensions and rebounds by each rectangle. This took me about 3 days and was a little bit challenging because I wasn’t getting the correct amount of rebounds. I then put the dimensions in order so I could put them on my “Dimensions vs. Rebounds” table easily. Finally, I created the table so I could look for patterns. Most of the steps that I did in the process were with my group like drawing the rectangles and recording the amount of rebounds on the “Dimensions vs. Rebounds” table. Solution: The first solution I found is a pattern it says if dimensions are the same the amount of rebounds is zero, or X by X will have 0 rebound they will exit from the top right it’s in yellow. The second solution I found says if you have two different dimensions, you can flip them around and they would still have the same amount of rebounds, or X by Y will have the same amount of rebounds as Y by X it’s in pink. The third solution I found says that if you multiply the width by two you would get the length, or Y=X2 it’s green. Self Assessment: In this POW I learned about…
