Jerry Maguire is a movie about a difficult time in a passionate sport agent’s life. Jerry Maguire, desires to be the best at what he does and later to find love. He ultimately achieves his goal through the help of Rod Tidwell and Dorothy Boyd. While the theme of the movie focuses on the trials and tribulations that a sport agent goes through there is also an underlying powerful relationship that adds to the movie’s actuality. Jerry Maguire integrates failure and success with his job and relationships with lovers and friends. The movie incorporates a rocky relationship, that will later lead to success, between Maguire and Tidwell through the use of mise-en-scene in the office following Maguire’s termination and the cinematography and editing in Tidwell’s winning game. Through this, Maguire and Tidwell use each other to reach their goals. In the first act of this film we are introduced to Frank Cushman who is Jerry’s number one client and ticket to success. Frank’s character however, is incorporated into the movie to show one of Jerry’s many stressful moments of failure when he loses Cushman as a client later on in the movie. It also shows how Maguire treats and handles Rod Tidwell who ends up being the only one who keeps him as an agent. Maguire desires Cushman to gain his success and Tidwell desires Maguire to “Show him the Money.” Bob Sugar is the villain of this movie and is constantly trying to make Jerry’s life miserable.
