Inner Boston Harbor's Thompson Island is a gem of an easy access spot if you're looking for fishing the flats for striped bass or deeper and structured-waters on the same plus bluefish. Access is good: kayak fishermen can use the little-more-than-a-mile-from-the-island hand-carry at City Point, ditto the ramp at Malibu Beach, Neponset for powerboaters with trailers with four-wheel drive. In addition to flats fishing on the island's back side, Thompson holds within its contours two tidal marshes and a large sandbar and bunker that connect the island to Squantum's Squaw Rocks mussel beds at low tide, themselves a good bait source. And because most anglers prefer Boston harbor's outer islands, the Brewsters and so on, or the Faun Bar off Deer…

tree overlooked the Boston Harbor and the enormous cruise boats on it. Under the oak stood an assortment of kids and instructors from all over the world. No a one of them knowing what they were about to get their self into. My mom, dad, and I wandered around, until one of the instructors approached us. “Hello and welcome to Thompson Island Outward Bound!” In a surprisingly joyful voice, even though all the kids around her look terrified as they hugged and talked to their parents about the…

Alcatraz held some of America's most cruel felons including murderer Robert Stroud, gangster Al Capone, and the “Birdman of Alcatraz”. Of all of the felons that had…

Alcatraz Island has a rather distinct past. Even though Alcatraz sits in the middle of San Francisco Bay, the island seems distant, as if it were miles out of sea. The appeal to Alcatraz is uninviting, since it had played an important role in the history of California. Imagine being imprisoned in one of the world’s most disreputable prisons. However, not only is the island well known as the prison, but it was much more than a prison going back in time. Alcatraz was a prison for the worst…

Francisco and the Bay from the Golden Gate Bridge or Twin Peaks. As many people view San Francisco as one of the most expensive and difficult cities to live in, I like to think of it as my home away from home. It is a city of seekers and adventurers. I am a city girl and I love everything about what an urban environment can offer me. I got lost within the crowds, found small hidden spots, interacted with others around me and I was able to forget about reality at those times. In the midst of all…

Morris and the Anglin brothers had no choice except to leave Allen West behind after taking too long to remove his cell’s ventilator grill. The escapees climbed thirty feet to the cellhouse’s roof from pipes and duct shafts, and fifty feet down pipes to the ground. After reaching the ground and the San Francisco Bay, Morris and the Anglin brothers were never seen or heard from again. West eventually made it to the rooftop of the cellhouse, but by that time his fellow inmates completely vanished.…

is crowded with people differing in skin color and nationality. I can hear the multiple languages beings spoken behind me while I look out to the San Francisco Bay and the beautiful Bay Bridge. Despite the loud chatter of passengers, the soothing sound of the boat challenging each wave and hitting it with a splash is the only sound focused on. A few minutes later, the boat suddenly thumps into the old, wooden loading dock and the entire boat shifts, causing the passengers to shift with it.…
