Downtown Locker Room and Macy’s are my two favorite stores. That’s because they have everything I’m looking for. In Downtown Locker Room you have your casual clothes like sportswear, hats EST. But, with Macy’s you have your business clothes for work. Although Macy’s and Downtown locker room are both great stores, they differ in prices, advertising, and products. First, when it comes to Downtown Locker Room and Macy’s they differ in prices. For example, when it comes to shoes Downtown Locker Room starts off at fifty dollars up to two fifty, but at Macy’s they can start at hundred dollars up. Then if you want to go and get a jacket or coat they can start at five hundred dollars just for a name brand. You can go to Downtown Locker Room and get a NIKE jacket for $80. Everything in Macy’s is just too expensive for people if you are unemployed and not making a whole bunch of money. Furthermore, when it comes to advertising for Macy’s is all on television and on the internet. That’s because when it comes to television, they know people are going to watch it at certain time out of the day. Another thing they do is if you sign up for their email they will send you promotions and coupons almost every week. Downtown Locker Room only does advertising online. From my knowledge that’s a smart thing because people are only on the internet and on their phones all day. Downtown Locker Room also does if you sign up with the email they will also send you emails about the promotions and they…

Bloomingdale's began with the extraordinary vision of two brothers, and with a 19th Century fad--the hoop skirt (Press 1). From the first day of business, Lyman and Joseph Bloomingdale set their store on a course to pioneer nearly every major change in the evolution of department stores (1). The same innovative philosophy guides the store's merchandise and marketing to this day (1). From the beginning, the Bloomingdale's brothers sought to present new products first; and when they…

Bloomingdale's is and always has been one of the world’s most successful department stores. Like any successful company Bloomingdale's advertises their products in many ways. When advertising the company’s objective is to grab the audience’s attention in one way or another. In November of 2015 Bloomingdale's was successful in grabbing the audience’s attention, but it wasn’t the right type of attention- it was the type no company wants. Bloomingdales was preparing for the holidays like any other…

To demonstrate this, let’s look at a particularly current and widely infamous ad made by the clothing company, Bloomingdale’s (Stevens). The advertisement, pictured at the left, shows a man and a woman wearing upscale Bloomingdale’s clothes, presumably at a holiday party. The man is staring at the woman, who is looking off and not noticing him. Alone, this photo, though mildly creepy, could have been a part of a decent ad, but Bloomingdale’s adding a shocking and tasteless tagline: “SPIKE YOUR…

Shock advertising, or shockvertising, isn’t necessarily a millennial invention. But just like other forms of unethical media usage like yellow journalism or plagiarism, shock advertising has seen a huge surge in popularity for brands geared towards our younger generation. I chose to do my analysis on Bloomingdale’s controversial 2015 Christmas season ad. Out of all the ads that use shockvertising that I am aware of, this is possibly the most egregious perpetrator of the negative aspects of mass…

Nautica, a Myrtle Beach Favorite Like many places near the water, there are Nautica stores here on the Grand Strand at both Tanger Outlet locations. The word “Nautica” comes from the word “Nautical” (or the latin “Nauticus”), which means relating to ships, shipping, sailors, or navigation on a body of water. You can see why the brand is a recognizable one in Myrtle Beach (and on many other popular beaches), along seas, gulfs, and around ports all across the globe. A type of sail called a…
