spend an hour on a single topic trying to memorize every tiny detail. It did not take me long to realize that there were not enough hours in the day for that. Instead of trying to memorize everything I had to find ways to really learn the information so that I could retain more and be able to reason through concepts better. I stopped making flashcards because it was not the most efficient method to help me retain the information I needed to know in the amount of time that I had to learn it. What had proved efficient and effective in my studies were repetition, teaching others, and drawing things out. I made great improvement in time management and scheduling throughout the semester. Pre-reading for classes on Sundays and implementing the Pomodoro Technique improved my focus. Instead of socializing in Anatomy Lab, I began utilizing my time wisely by quizzing myself on the structures I found or preparing for the week’s TBL. Another area I strived to improve was my critical thinking skills. I used to go in to tests believing that I knew the information, but then had trouble answering the questions that were being asked of me. The amount of time I spent figuring out what the question was looking for and having to combine concepts to choose the correct answer played a large part in this.
