As the clock ticks, I wait anxiously for it to hit 3:23 P.M. All I could think about was football practice. My first game is tomorrow and I am overwhelmed with excitement. Forgetting to pay attention in class the teacher calls on me saying “Sabin, what does the m stand for in y=mx+b?”, me being clueless I look at my notes. Being lucky, another student answers saying “m is slope”. As the bell rings, the teacher comes up to me saying “Next time pay attention instead of looking at the clock, time will pass by faster”. I carelessly just nod my head and walk away. I race down the long hallway and down the stairs to finally get to the varsity locker room, meeting up with my friends Brian and Alex. As we walk in we hold our nose, trying not to smell the sweat. I see my teammates rushing to change into their football uniforms and the rebels who didn't care about being late to practice banging on the lockers and joking around. Trying to walk through the crowd, I finally reach my locker. I change into my football uniform as quickly as possible. While I change, my teammates around me show of their new football gear. Me being the only one without new, flashy, and cool gear, I get a little jealous. Being done with changing I run out with my other teammates that are also ready. As we get to the hallway, we see other student athletes that were in other sports talking to each other. While we pass the several students in the hallway, the students look at us. Being on the football team was a…

Every man had gone through a different method of torture. One bloody man is strapped onto a chair with an eyeball hanging out of his skull. One man is strapped to a table with all his legs cut off. Another is shackled to the wall with his balls cut off. All of these men seem to have been left to die bleeding in one way or another. They must've been that close to dying because they didn't seem to react to the yelling further down and some of them were even twitching oddly. It wasn't until we were…

director; as Lapsley explains; “The displaced orthodoxy can be encapsulated by the single word ‘auterism’: the belief that cinema was an art of personal expression, and that its great directors were as much to be esteemed as the authors of their work as any writer, composer or painter.” (Lapsley, 1992: 105) Barton Fink and The Player undoubtedly and categorically question…

Education for Leisure by Carol Ann Duffy, Sad Joke on a Marae by Apirana Taylor, District 9 directed by Neill Blomkamp and Barton Fink directed by Joel Coen. I expected all of my texts to be able to reflect one another as they were all from a similar time period. In particular, I expected District 9 and Sad Joke on a Marae to draw similar points as they are both texts that illustrate alienation towards indigenous people, with Sad Joke on a Marae being about Maori, and District 9 being about the…

you.” The way he said like you made Eve shudder. “It’s what your mother and I feel is best for you,” her father said. Eve stormed out of the room, annoyed and hurt that her parents thought it had come to this. Every aspect of the edifice was uniform, perfectly matching the hundreds of other buildings in the Community. Eve was…

Six Songs of Me Part One: What is the first song you ever bought? To remember a single song that was the first I ever purchased is difficult, but I can trace it back to one band and one album. The album is called Nevermind, performed by the band Nirvana. The song, in particular, that comes to mind is “Come As You Are.” I have always been a big Nirvana fan and this song is one of the first that I can remember downloading. Whether or not I downloaded them off of Itunes or Limewire, is beyond…
