Healing phases of wounds

Inflammation, proliferation, remodeling

Inflammation phase

Initial defense, limit damage to wound, remove debris, prepare wound for healing

How long does inflammation phase last? How many stages does it have if any?

2-5 days two stages

First stage imflamm

Blood vessels constrict to control blood loss, vessels dialate to bring platelets to wound forming a clot. Damaged cells leak plasma and chemicals that cause discomfort

Second stage inflamm

Wbc (leukocytes) travel to wound in big numbers several types include neutrophilis and monocytes

Neutrophilis and monocytes perform what? What does it do?

Perform phagocytosis=consumption (removal) of pathogens, clotted blood and cell debris

*cleans wound preparing it for healing

Proliferation phase

Growth tissue occurs here from edges-inward new tissue can be fragile, through time collagen strengths wound. At the end of this phase, new blood vessels degenerate(no need) losing bright pink color

Granulation tissue

New tissue composed of new blood vessel, fibroblast, epithelial cells

Highly vascular=bright color pink to red

Name 3 various ways wounds heal

Resolution, regeneration, scar formation

Resolution

Recover turning to their norm func.

Regeneration

New cells formed

Scar formation

Damaged cells replace w/nonfunc. Fibrous tissue (amt. Depend on damage and type wound heal)

Remodeling phase

Maturation of wound occur here. Tissue increases in strength DT synthesis of collagen by fibroblasts

*scar tissue shrinks

Name 3 types of wound heal processes
