Hyperbaric indications

-Hypoxic or ischemic wounds


-Diabetic wounds


-Venous Wounds


-Failing skin grafts or flaps

-Refractory osteomyelitis (refractory = not responding to other forms of treatment)

MIST Contraindications

-Pregnancy


-Cancer in the area of US treatment


-Osteomyelitis or Acute infection


-No traditional US over bony prominences


-No stationary traditional US


-No US over implanted devices or DVT


-No US over the spine, brain, eyes, or reproductive organs


-Mentally impaired patients


Estim electrode placement

-active electrode over the wound with a wet conductive medium


-the dispersive electrode should be larger than the active pad and placed proximal

epithelial cells, neutrophils, macrophages

ES treatment duration

60 minutes daily 5-7 days per week

-Pressure Ulcers Stage I through IV

MIRE indications

peripheral neuropathy, decreased local circulation, pain

MIRE contraindications

-Cancer at the site


-Pregnancy


-Evidence of burn from previous treatment


-Bony areas are more likely to burn


-Patient should not lie on pads or have significant pressure holding pads on body.

Negative pressure therapy indications

-Chronic, acute, traumatic, subacute, and dehisced (surgically swen together, but it splits open) wounds


-Partial thickness burns


-Diabetic, pressure, and venous insufficiency wounds


-Flaps and grafts


Negative pressure therapy contraindications

-Exposed blood vessels, anastomotic sites, organs, or nerves


-Cancer


-Untreated osteomyelitis


-Unexplored fistulas (an opening bw 2 parts of the body that should not be there)


-Wounds with eschar still present


Ultra-Violet C indications

-Infected or highly colonized wounds where traditional interventions are not working.


UVC contraindications

-Light sensitive disease such as SLE (lupus)


-Current or past hx Melanoma or Squamous Cell Carcinomas


-HIV


-Fever


-Radiation or deep X-Ray therapy


UVC treatment duration

30 sec to 2.5 minutes.

When should you begin to see improvement with UVC?

5 daily treatments should begin to show infection improvement

Total contact cast indications

-Non-healing, neuropathic plantar foot wound with no infection present.


Total contact cast contraindications

-Acute infection (don’t’ want to wrap a cast around it for a week)


-Osteomyelitis


-Dermatitis


-Excessive edema (more swelling in a cast is bad)


-Claustrophobia
