Allies
The name for the alliance of the United States, Britain, Russia, and other countries.
Armistice
truce signaling the end of war
Axis
The name for the alliance of Germany, Italy, Japan, and other countries during World War II.
Black Market
Illegal trade in rationed items, usually at very high prices.
Bomber
A plane whose main purpose is to carry a load of bombs to a target, drop the bombs, and return to home base.
bunkers
protected (often underground) areas usually made out of concrete, for people to wait out an attack.

concentration camps
Nazi run camps where Jewish people and other prisoners were sent to be killed.
dictator
a ruler who takes control of a country and does not allow elections and may use force to get rid of any political enemies.

6 pointed yellow star, symbol for Jews, that the Nazis forced Jewish people to wear on their clothing at all times so they could be easily singled out for cruel treatment.
V-Day
Victory or the end of the War
Terms also used were V-E day (Victory in Europe) and VJ Day (Victory over Japan)
Pearl Harbor
American Naval base in Hawaii that was bombed by the Japanese on Dec. 7, 1941, forcing the U.S. to enter WWII.
rationing
The system of requiring coupons for the purchase of scarce items so that everyone had an equal share.

Symbol used by the Nazi party
