What is misleading about the name of Spring Mountain AVA?
This rugged hillside AVA on the western side of Napa is not actually a mountain. The name is a colloquial term used in Napa to describe a section of the Mayacamus mountains and refers to the numerous springs in the area.
Describe the climate in Spring Mountain AVA.
Spring Mountain is above the fog line but benefits from the cooling effects of winds from San Pablo Bay. Unlike other parts of Napa, however, these breezes come over the mountain range from the west rather than up the valley. The area enjoys relatively cool days and warm nights.
Spring Mountain is decidedly (cooler/warmer) than Mount Veeder, but (cooler/warmer) than Diamond Mountain.
