Discuss the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG.
Name: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG
Region: Abruzzo
Grapes: Montepulciano, max 15% Sangiovese

Two distinct styles: both are very deep in color, one is full with soft, luscious fruit, the other firmer and more tannic. A lighter style called "cerasuolo" exists for cherry-pink wine with fresh fruit, seldom as exciting.
Discuss the Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG.
Name: Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG
Region: Basilicata
Grapes: Aglianico (red)

A big but balanced red wine of warm color, rich, chocolate-cherry fruit, and firm tannin structure, Aglianico del Vulture can be slightly rustic in youth, yet develops a true silky finesse with age.
Discuss the Fiano di Avellino DOCG.
Name: Fiano di Avellino DOCG
Region: Campania
Grapes: Fiano (white)

Mastroberardino's Vignadora is the best wine in this unusual, but well above average, dry white wine DOCG, made from Fiano grapes grown in the hilly hinterland of Avellino.
Discuss the Greco di Tufo DOCG.

Region: Campania
Grapes: Greco (white)

Delicate, dry, and soft white wines that may sometimes be spumante, from the true Greco grown north of Avellino.
Discuss the Taurasi DOCG.
Name: Taurasi DOCG
Region: Campania
Grapes: Aglianico (red), plus max 15% total of Barbera, Piedirosso, and Sangiovese

Elevated to DOCG in 1993. Along with Basilicata's thicker tasting Aglianico del Vulture, it is one of the country's greatest wines from this underrated grape variety, in an equally age-worthy style.
Discuss the Albana di Romagna DOCG.
Name: Albana di Romagna DOCG
Region: Emilia-Romagna
Grape: Albana (white)

These straightforward, fruity, sometimes dry, occasionally semisweet white wines are still or sparkling and may be in a very sweet style, either by regular vinification or from passito grapes. First white wine to receive DOCG status, considered to have occurred as a result of a political fudge.
