Racism

Racism is everywhere. People focused on the race of people rather than what class they were in.

White Privilege

You can be born into privilege. We interest what our parents went through. We are not a complete blank slate at birth.

It is easy to abuse it.

"Whiteness"

Its a construct that was created. It prevented poor whites and black slaves from forming unity together.

Denial

Denial is cultivated early on. People tend to ignore it and look the other way instead of dealing with it.

Reverse Racism

Whites also can believe that they are the victim, not the other way around.

Antiracists

We have a hard time naming antiracist in the US. There is a lack of role models to look up to and follow. Exposing racism is very important.

Resistance

We have nothing to gain from not challenging racism. White privilege does provide advantages but not in the long term.

Collaboration

It is very hard to avoid. "By owning our collaboration we can see our shortcomings, and then commit ourselves to do better next time" (Wise pg. 128).

We can be good while still doing harm.

Genealogy

Where we come from has a lot to do with what privileges we have.
