Survival of languages

1. Languages will survive if they are useful.




e.g English - 1066 Anglo Saxon, invasion of the French Normans, Medieval French.




2. Languages have to fit into a number of domains.




e.g. The fewer domains languages fit into, the less chance they will have of surviving.
