Heat
a measurement of the amount of energy in a body
Temperature
a measurement of the kinetic energy in a body
Thermal Insulator
a material of relatively low heat conductivity (prevents loss/entrance of heat [to a certain extent])
Thermal Conductor
a material of relatively high heat conductivity (allows loss/entrance of heat [to a certain extent])
Relative Humidity
a representation of how close the air is to being saturated
Heat Index
an index that combinesair temperature and relative humidity in an attempt to determine the human-perceived equivalent temperature — how hot it feels.
Wind Chill
Wind chill is the felt air temperature on exposed skin due to wind. The wind chill temperature is never higher than the air temperature, and the windchill is undefined at higher temperatures (above 10 °C [50 °F]).
Kinetic-molecular theory
as molecules begin to rapidly move around, they spread apart and the temperature rises [and vice versa]
Evaporation
the process by which water is converted from its liquid form to its vapor form
Condensation
the movement from the gaseous phase of water to the liquid phase
Precipitation
falling water (rain, snow, sleet, hail)
Dew Point
the temperature to which the air must be cooled without changing the pressure to form dew; the temperature at which dew forms
Dew
the droplets that occur on objects in the morning/evening
Phase Diagram
a way to represent the various phases of a substance and the conditions under which each phase exists.
