Air Pressure
Air pressure is the weight of air pressing down on Earth
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is a blanket of gases and tiny bits of dust that surround the Earth
Barometer
a tool used to measure air pressure
Blizzard
A blizzard is a storm with lots of snow cold temperature and strong winds. It buries plants, cars and buildings under snow.
Clouds
A collection of tiny water drops or ice crystals in the air
Cumulus
Cumulus clouds are puffy white clouds that look like cotton balls. They form water droplets and form at the middle level above the ground.
Condensation
Condensation is the changing of gas to a liquid. (liquid on window) * Condensation also forms clouds-wter vapor rises into the air and cools, condenses, and water collects around dust specks in the air and forms clouds.
Hurricane
A hurricane is a large storm with strong winds and heavy rain. It forms over an ocean where it creates very large waves.
Precipitation
Precipitation is water that falls to the ground from the atmosphere.
Temperature
Temperature is a measurement of how hot or cold something is.
Tornado
A tornado is a powerful storm with rotating winds
Weather
Weather is what the air is like at a certain time and place.
Wind
Wind is moving air. On a windy day it moves fast. On a calm day it moves slow.
Name the types of clouds
Cirrus, Cumulus, Stratus
What are cirrus clouds?

(Cirrus clouds are "seriously" icy and high)
Cirrus clouds look thin, wispy or feathery and are way high in the sky. They are made from TINY BITS OF ICE
What are cumulus clouds?
Cumulus coulds are puffy white clouds that look like cotton balls. Flat bottom. Forms water droplets and are at the middle level above the ground.
What are stratus clouds?

Stratus = Sheets/blankets
Stratus clouds are flat layers of clouds. The layers look like sheets or blankets. Cover most of the sky and can be gray or white. Can form water droplets and are low in the sky.
How do you measure weather conditions?
Thermometer: mearures temperature (hot cold). Rain gauge measures amount of precipitation, Weather Vane measures wind direction, Anemometer measures how fast air moves, barometer measures air pressure
Compare and contrast different types of severe weather.
thunderstorm: thunder, lightning, heavy rain strong winds. tornado: powerful storm rotating winds looks like a tall funnel, damaging. hurricane: large storm strong winds heavy rain *forms over the ocean* creates waves Blizzard: storm with lots of snow, cold temperatures and strong winds buries things under snow.
Why does air temperature change during the day?
The sun's energy heats Earth's land and water. The land and water heat the air. The sun heats more at mid-day then at sunrise or sunset. This causes temperatures to change during the day.
