Be able to explain the concept of 'talking people of out following Christ' according to Platt
Platt explains how Jesus would always talk people out of following Him. Platt uses the example out of Luke 9 of three men who approached Jesus eager to follow Him. Jesus practically dissuades the would-be followers from following Him by making it clear that following Him required abandoning everything else. Jesus would plainly tell them the truth and what it cost to follow Him, and this would turn people away.

Platt was meaning that, Jesus, through his time of ministry, had staked everything on his relationship with 12 men. Judas was lost, but the other 11 were responsible for carrying on everything Jesus had begun.
Be able to differentiate between 'discipling' and 'disinfecting' as described by Platt

Disinfecting Christians from the world involves isolating followers of Christ in a spiritual safe deposit box called the church building and teaching them to be good. In this strategy, success in the church is defined by how big a building you have to house the Christians and isolate them from the realities of the world.


Discipling Christians involves propelling Christians into the world to risk their lives for the sake of others. Disciple making takes place multiple times every week in multiple locations by men and women sharing, showing, and teaching the Word of Christ and together serving a world in need of Christ

5. God has made a way of salvation for the lost-Christ died on the cross and rose from the grave, and through him we can be righteous before God and assured of eternal life


6. People cannot come to God apart from faith in Christ- Faith in Christ is the only means by which we can be saved- Romans 3:21-26


7. Christ commands the church to make the gospel known to all peoples- Romans 10
