Insectivores have a tympanic bone that is annular, and no auditory bulla is present in some insectivores; cerebrum is smooth; eyes are often small; zygomatic bone is reduced or absent; teeth have sharp cusps; intestinal cecum is absent. Except for fossorial species, limbs are usually unspecialized and are never adapted for saltation (leaping).
