Fat soluble vitamins

Vitamin A (retinal) D (calciferol) E (tocopherol) and K. These vitamins are only digestible and absorbed in fat and bile is needed.

VITAMIN A

promotes healthy vision,regulation of energy and heat, promotes growth of epithelial cells, and is an antioxidant. Yellow orange veggies, dark green veggies, liver and egg yolks. Deficiency will cause dry eyes skin and mucus membranes. Toxicity will cause headaches, blurred vision and anorexia.

VITAMIN D

Regulates rate of deposit and reabsorption of calcium in bones, classified As a parathyroid hormone, helps blood clotting and regulates blood calcium. Found in sunlight fortified milk, liver, egg yolks. Deficiency will cause rickets, weak bones and teeth. Toxicity will cause kidney stones retarded growth and weakness.

VITAMIN E

Antioxidant, anticoagulent, increases rcbs, protects against heart disease. Meat, fish, milk, eggs, leafy vegetables, whole grains. Deficiency causes suppressed immune system and increased hemolysis of rbcs. Toxicity causes excessive bleeding depression, cramps and diarrhea.

VITAMIN K

Coagulant. Liver milk cabbage and dark leafy greens.

Water soluble vitamins.

B vitamins and vitamin c. They dissolve in water, so body excretes what it does not need.

B1 thiacin.

Normal nervous system function and energy metabolism. Pork organ meat enriched whole grains and nuts. Mental confusion and enlarged heart. Severe deficiency causes beriberi.

B2

Growth and healthy eyes, metabolism of fat carbs and protein. Dairy organ meats and enriched grains. Deficiency causes sore throat, red corneas, photophobia.

B3 Niacin

Helps release energy for carbs and helps reduce cholesterol. Found in avocados broccoli tomatoes and dates. Deficiency will cause dermatitis dementia and diarrhea.

B6

Synthesizes amino acids. Found in meats dairy brown rice. Deficiency causes seizures

B12

Manufactures DNA develops rbcs. Found in liver meats dairy.

Folic acid

Rna and Dna synthesis, formation of rbcs, found in orange juice dairy and green leafy veggies.
