Jump cuts is where the figures or background change abruptly as the film is cut in those places, this gives the film a fast nervous feeling. It adds spontanaity and youthfulness

What kind of photography is Cindy Sherman known for? Describe three personae that she has emulated in her photos. What makes them different from self-portraiture?

Portaiture, she takes photos of herself portraying different personas. Mostly they are not actual individuals but types of people such as an abandoned girlfriend, the party girl or the androgenous youth. She has also recreated old master's paintings in new ways that make the viewer contemplate the true strangeness of the work. Her photos are not self portraits because she is not portraying herself, she is always a different character or person that causes people to question the categories they put others and themselves in

How does burning and dodging contribute to the strongest visual elements in this photo. Name at least two visual elements that are strongly represented here

Ansel Adams used a technique called burning and dodging which essentially allows more light on to the area of the photo that he wants more pronounced. He would paint on the photos to create the tones he wanted in the image. In this image we can see that he has change the trunk of the tree with this technique to be very dark and the leaves to be a similar tone as the cliff behind them. This gives the illusion that the tree is a network within the cliff as opposed to being a separate object. Line is essential to image as it creates the webbing and branched of the dark tree trunk. Value is also vital, Adams chooses his values specifically to compliment each other, so that the tree and cliff are matching in value and so that the rest of the image balances because of the changes he's made in value.

What technology does Peter campus use in an innovative way in his file three transitions? What concept is expressed?

Campus uses a green screen to create the effects we see. He also uses a gel that can be placed anywhere to allow the green screen to show in that area. In his film he projects himself on the green screen as he tries to disappear into it and erase his image using the gel. However, his attempts only lead him back to where he started. It is meant to show how he can't disappear. as much as he tries, he still ends up back with himself.
