What is the physiologic definition of respiration?
Transport of oxygen from the outside to the tissues; and transport of carbon dioxide opposite.
What movements expand the chest during inspiration?
Diaphram depresses, ribs abduct and move out, sternum moves up.
How does cross sectional area change as you move down the respiratory tree? How does velocity?
With increased branching, cross sectional area increases and velocity decreases.
What are the primary muscles of inspiration? What are the secondary?
Primary- diaphragm, external intercostals.
Secondary- scalenes, sternocleidomastoid, neck and back, upper respiratory tract.
