What is Transudate? Name five main causes?
Transudate is transparent!
Transudate is an excess of protein and cell poor fluid in the intrestitual compartment.
Causes (everything that reduces albumin because Alb provides 80% of oncotoc pressure)
- Malabsorption
- Protein poor diet (Kwashiorkor)
- Liver dysfunction/cirrhosis
- Nephrotic syndrome/protenuria
- Increase in total body Na
Causes PITTING edema
What is Exudate? Name main causes?
Exudate is an excess of protein and cell rich fluid in the intrestitual compartment.
Common cause - peritonitis causes fluid in abdominal cavity.
NON-PITTING edema
Most common cause of lymphadema
Lymphatic channel blockage due to a radical mastectomy (in the US)
Effective arterial blood pressure
Refers to the intravascular portion of ECF - correlates directly with ECFV and TBNa status of the individual.
One exception is RHF - where increased hydrostatic pressure leads to fluid redistribution from ECF compartment into the interstitual compartment
Name three major roles that ATN II plays
- vasocontriction of peripheral resistance arterioles
- aldosterone synthesis stimulation
- activation of thirst center in the brain
