Autonomic Bladder

Pt's whose bladders are no longer controlled by the Brain because of injury or Disease also void by reflex only

Urinary Diversion

Involves the surgical creation of an alternate route for excretion of urine

Anuria

24- Hour urine output is less than 50 mL. S/s are complete Kidney Shutdown or Renal Failure

Oliguria

Scanty or greatly diminished amount of urine voided in a given time. 24 hr urine output is less than 400 mL

Proteinurua

Protein in the urine. Indications of Kidney Disease

Suppression

Stoppage of urine production. Normally Adult Kidneys produce urine continuously at the rate of 60 to 120 mL/hr

Specific Gravity

Normal Range is 1.015-1.025. Measure of the concentration of dissolved solids in the urine. Concentrated Urine

-Usually indicates Dehydration


Diluted Urine


-lower than normal SG


-Usually indicates Overhydration

Normal pH of Urine

Normal Range = 6.0



4.6 - 8.0



Urine becomes Alkaline on standing when CO2 diffuses into the air



High protein diet causes urine to become excessively acidic



Certain foods produce Alkaline urine i.e.: citrus fruits, dairy products, vegetables and legumes



Meats tend to produce Acidic urine
