Transitional Epithelial Cells

Rough cuboidal cells which slough off from the lining of ureters, urinary bladder, and renal pelvis of kidneys.

Squamous Epithelial Cells

Flat nucleated cells which slough off from lining of urethra

Erythrocyets

RBCs foudn in urine. Presence may indicate kidney damage.

Leukocytes

Nucleated WBCs, presence may indicate UTI

Erythrocyte Cast

Precipitate of RBC in shape of tubule or duct

Leukocyte Cast

Precipitate of WBC in shape of tubule or duct

Granular Cast

Precipitate of cells which remained in duct but degenerated into cast

Hyaline Casts

Cast composed of RBCs, WBCs, and oval fat droplets

Calcium Oxalate

Greenish crustals usually in teh shape of an octahedron

Uric Acid

Yellow to Reddish-Brown crysteals, highly polymorphic in shape

Calcium Phosphate

Crystals have various forms including 6 to 8 prisms appearing in single or rosette shapes.

Cell

In urine results from sloughing off of epethelum from the lining of the urinary tract and filtrate. May indicate urinary tract inflammation or urinary disease.

Casts

Hardened proteins and cells which can form plugs in shape of distal convoluted tubule (collecting duct). Form in acidic urine, when protein is present, adn when urine is concentrated.

Crystals

Form when minerals crytalize in urine. indicate kidney stones or metabolic problem.
