Causes of the American Civil War

The North and South were very different regions. They had different resources and different industries. The North and South disagreed about slavery. They argued over whether new states would be slave or free. After Lincoln was elected President, the South seceded and the Civil War began as the North tried to reunite the country.

Abolitionist

A person who wants to get rid of or abolish slavery

Secede

To break away from a country. The South did this after Lincoln's election and this started the Civil War
