hydrochlorothiazide
Esidrix, HCTZ, Hydro-Chlor, Hydro-D, HydroDIURIL,Microzide, Oretci
Functional class: Thiazide diuretic, antihypertensive
Usual adult dose: 12.5-100mg/day
Action: acts on distal tubule and ascending limb of loop of Henle by increasing excretion of H20, Na, Cl, K.
Uses: Edema, hypertension, diuresis.
Contraindications: in patients with anuria and patients hypersensitive to other thiazides or other sulfonamide derivatives.
Use cautiously in children and in patients with severe renal disease, impaired hepatic function, or progressive hepatic disease.
