meningitis
purulent bacterial/viral infection of pia mater, arachnoid, & subarachnoid space surrounding the brain & spinal cord

S/S: severe headache - fever - photophobia - petechia - nuchal rigidity - Brudzinski's sign - N/V - encephalopathy
