What is an amino acid?

A molecule which has an amine group and carboxyl/carboxylic acid group attached to the same carbon.

What does an amino acid look like?

What is the isoelectric point?

The pH at which a zwitterion exists.

What is a zwitterion?

When the hydrogen from the COOH (carboxylic acid group) is donated to the NH2 (amine) group to form NH3+ and COO- acting as an acid and base simultaneously so there is no overall charge.

What determines the isoelectric point?

The -R group on the amino acid determines the isoelectric point.

What will glycine look like at it's isoelectric point? (-R group is just a hydrogen)
