"Best" Riesling according to experts is from Mosul region in Rhine region - minerally


French Riesling - food wines; sometimes can age for up to 15 years


Rarely blended with other grapes


Very sweet (dessert) to dry


Generally higher acidity (makes it great for pairing with food)


Generally served chilled


US: Finger lakes ice wine riesling, Washington and Columbia River Valley riesling


Recommended pairings: spicy foods, fresh fruit, mild cheeses, brunch food, desserts

Cabernet Pfeffer

Aka Gros Verdot (as in Petit Verdot)


Peppery red wine - hence the name


Almost spicy


Originally from Germany


Now grown almost exclusively in CA on Central Coast and a very rare varietal
