Prednisone & SoluMedrol - Action
Corticosteroid. Suppresses inflammatory response; inhibits cytokine production & T-cell activation & proliferation.
Prednisone & SoluMedrol - Side Effects
Peptic ulcer, HTN, osteoporosis, Na & H2O retention, muscle weakness, easy bruising, delayed healing, hyperglycemia, risk for infection.
Cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral) - Action
Calcineurin. Acts on T helper cells to prevent production and release of IL-2 & y-interferon; inhibits production of T cytotoxid lymphocytes & B cells.
Cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral) - Side Effects
Nephrotoxicity, risk for infection, hepatotoxicity, lymphoma, HTN, tremors, hirsutism, leukopenia, gingival hyperplasia.
Tacrolimus (Prograf) - Action
Calcineurin. Same as cyclosporines but more effective.

Same as cyclosporines but more toxic.
Cellcept - Action
Cytotoxic Drugs. Inhibits purine synthesis; suppresses proliferation of T and B cells
Cellcept - Side Effects
DNV, severe neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, risk for infection, > incidence of malignancies.
Rapamune - Action
Cytotoxic Drugs. Suppresses T-cell activation & proliferation.
Rapamune - Side Effects
Risk for infection, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, arthralgias, diarrhea, thrombocytopenia, > incidence of malignancies. Not used in liver or lung transplantation.
