What does SPORT mean

Specificity

Progression

Overload

Reversibility

Tedium

In terms of specificity what does it mean

You must do specific types of activity to improve specific parts of the body in specific ways

What does progression mean

To improve and continue to develop the training programme it must be made progressively harder

In terms of overload what things might this do for a training programme

Fitness can only be improved by training more than regular

Unless body is subjected to increased demands improvements will not be made

You must work your body harder over a prolonged period of time as result fitness will improve

How can overload be improved (3)

Increasing resistance e.g adding 10kg to the barbell

Increasing the number of repetitions with a particular weight

Increasing the intensity more work in same time to reduce recovery periods

What does FITT mean

Frequency

Intensity

Time

Type

What does frequency mean

How often you train

What does Intensity mean

How hard you train

What are the five types of training

Continuous

Interval

Weight

Circuit

Fartlek

Reversibility basically means

Use it or lose it

And fitness will be lost if the training load is reduced

Why is tedium hard to avoid

Because it is hard avoiding tedium while obeying the the first principle specificity

What can overtraining lead to

To injury
