History:
Following the Second World War in the 1950s the middle class in the United States and Europe continued to grow. As a result; both Europe and the United States population were nearly fully employed and started to look for destinations where they could relax in the sun. The more developed countries of the north found those locations in Latin America and the tourism industry expanded into Latin America.
The Latin American countries were an active participant in promoting their country and the came up with the promotion of the three S’s: Sun, Sand and Sea. They thought if they could send a simple message that the best area to relax is in area of the three S’s, that would catch on and it did. During the 1950’s, Cuba was the most popular destination down south for most of the people from the United States. Until Fidel Castro’s army took over and made the country a communist state. Then the northern population started to look for more stable countries for their vacation destination.
